Question: Why sometimes cooking use butter instead of oil or both at the same time?
Why sometimes cooking use butter instead of oil or both at the same time? Will it affect the taste? How about in baking?

Answer by drewsgatorgirl
Butter and oil together creates a high temp. without burning. If you want to saute at a really high temp, mix the two together. They do not act as substitutes when baking though. They are made of different molecular properties and won’t work!!!

I don’t think it affects the taste, but i like sauteing with both of them so my food has a buttery taste. Remember when you cook with certain oils (Olive in particular) once the temp. of the oil gets about a certain mark (I think it is around 200 degrees) the “Good Fats” are converted to bad fats. So if you were cooking with olive oil to save on bad fat, you might as well use butter and enjoy the taste!!!

Question: If you’re cooking with a slow cooker and want to half the recipe, does the cooking time change?
I have a recipe for pineapple chicken and I want to half the recipe (3 chicken breasts rather than 6, 1 pepper instead of 2, etc). Does that mean I half the cooking time as well, or does it stay the same?

Question: If you are cooking cheesecake, and you place a cookie sheet underneath, should you adjust cooking time?
So, I’m cooking cheesecake, and I put a cookie sheet underneath to catch any batter that falls out. However, should I increase or reduce the time because of this? Only answer if you’re an experienced chef. No best guesses with little knowledge of the subject, please! I really need this to turn out well.
Add sources, please! Why should I cut the time? Explain!

Answer:

WHY would you?

No you do not need to adjust the time, but make sure you have a bain marie set up. If you don’t want to put the cheese cake in the water then put an oven safe bowl or pan with hot water on the shelf Under the cheese cake.

****Aarons mom has NO clue. Shwe is suggesting only baking it for 5-8 minutes. Has she even made a CC before?

Also I do agree with the poster that said CC should not drip and oer flow but they can be handy for gwtting it in the oven with no mess.

Question: Can I cook 2 cakes in the oven at the same time? Will it affect temperature or cooking time?
I have one cake on the top shelf and one on the bottom, both of the same size and same mixture. It’s a fan-forced oven heated to 160C or 320F and the recipe recommends I cook for 45-50mins. Does having 2 cakes in the oven make a difference? Will I need to adjust cooking time or temperature. Will I need to rotate the cakes?

No it does not. Only if you have a different amount of batter in one pan.
